Sametime menus in Notes 8

One of the things I love about the Notes 8 client is having Sametime 7.5.1 built in. An issue that has come up repeatedly is where the menu functions are in the client. If you use a Standalone Sametime 7.5.1 client you have these menu choices

In Notes 8 the options are carried over to the same place in the menu

What I have seen from the managed beta group and from my internal beta deployment is that many people find this confusing, and have not been able to find the menu items they have been looking for, which leads me to believe in a wider deployment this confusion will continue and in greater numbers,

1 - Mitch, do you think some of the confusion is due to us being used to a stand-alone ST client, and not accustomed to it being integrated?

I think there is going to be some short-term confusion for people who have been using Notes for a long time, whilst we adjust and "relearn" where things are.

But hopefully Notes 8 will also gain a lot of new users who won't have to adapt. For them, I think the change is fairly logical, particularly as the sidebar could have other plugins with their own menus. They'll be all in the same place.

Oh, and if Marybeth and her team have done things right, it'll be easy and intuitive for us all! Emoticon

2 - Simon - to an extent you are right,the confusion is due to being used to the standalone client. My main concern here is managing change for the end users, we are in the process of rolling out Sametime 7.5.1 now, next year we will then move to Notes 8 and the integrated Sametime client (which by then is likely to be Sametime 8). Notes 8 is a big change, if the users are comfortable with Sametime already, the less they have to relearn there the better. See my comments at Mary Beth Raven's blog for more { Link }
